Trevor Jacobs – World Veteran Mountain Running champion

Trevor Jacobs from Weston Creek Athletics Club on Sunday won his second world mountain running title in less than 12 months. In 2006 Jacobs won the M50 world long distance mountain running championship in the USA. Two weeks ago he finished 3rd M55 in the 2007 world long distance mountain running championship in the Jungfrau marathon in Switzerland but was disappointed with his run and concluded that he had started out too quickly. Learning from this on Sunday he started more conservatively in the world veteran mountain running championship in Germany on a 9 km uphill course. However, by halfway he had gone from 12th in the early stages to take the lead. He built on this to achieve an outstanding victory in 48 mins 56 secs, over a minute ahead of runner-up Aurelio Moscato of Italy in 50:00 and Meinrad Beha of Germany in 50:26.

Further back in the flield Bob Flower of Victoria finished 38th in 60:19 and Kevin Wills of Gosford 78th in 71:04.

In the W40 championship, Hubertien Wichers of Brisbane was 6th in 54:31.
