25th WORLD MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP, ITALY, 6 September

This Sunday sees the 25th running of the World Mountain Running Championship at Campodolcino in Italy, but the first in which it has full IAAF status as a world athletics championship.

Unfortunately the Australian team has been decimated by unavailabilities and injuries with the highest medal hope, Veronica Wallington, 3rd in the junior girls in 2007 and 6th in 2008, suffering a stress fracture only a few days ago and staying home in the USA where she has taken up an athletics scholarship.
