Black Mountain Run Up, ACT
2.6 kms
Tuesday 16 March
Vanessa Haverd was only one second slower than her record breaking run last month in today’s Black Mountain Run Up. Fortunately she had recovered from back pain that forced her withdrawal from Saturday’s Six Foot Track race. Patrick Kluth and Matthew Hole proved to be ironmen in backing up from Six Foot to go up Black Mountain only 3 days later. Stuart Doyle fine tuned for this Friday’s Kosciuzko Run by winning comfortably in 12.02.
There was a minute’s silence before the start to remember ppular Canberra distance runner Milton Valentine who passed away on Sunday after a battle with cancer. Milton had many sporting accomplishments from basketball to long distance cycling. In mountain running he did the Mt Ainslie Run Up 32 times, with his best 12.47, and the Black Mountain Run Up 7 times, with a fastest time of 14.03. In Australian Mountain Running Championships he preferred uphill and was 3rd M50 in 2006 up Mt Tennent and 3rd M55 up Mt Rob Roy in 2008. He completed the Kosciuszko Mountain Marathon in 2007 but was proudest of his feat in finishing the very gruelling Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland in 4hrs 11 mins in 2002.
