Australian mountain running champion Scott McTaggart of Canberra has followed up his record time in Melbourne’s Eureka Tower climb by yesterday taking out Australia’s largest mountain running race the Point to Pinnacle in Tasmania, in a new record. In a field of 1300 runners and walkers over the 21.4 km course from Wrest Point Casino to the summit of Mt Wellington, McTaggart emerged from the mist at the finish to clock 1.24.14, more than a minute off the old record set in 1999. Mark Tucker in second place was 4 minutes behind, with Andy Wilson third.
Hobart runner Jenny Gillard, sister of the late Kerryn McCann, was fastest female in 1.51.58, just 18 seconds ahead of runner up Lyn Saint-John. Emma Weinauer was third.
