Stromlo Stomp 10.4kms
incorporating ACT Veterans Mountain Running Championship
Mt Stromlo ACT
23 January 2011
Former World Games orienteering champion Grant Bluett (pictured leading the field at the start) used his downhill running ability over rough terrain to great advantage to set up a winning lead in today’s Stromlo Stomp 10.4 kms. Recent heavy rains had made a number of the 4WD trails rutted and stony. Former Australian representative Stuart Doyle was able to match it with Bluett for the first 5kms but had difficulty maintaining fluency on the rougher tracks. In finishing second he won the ACT Veterans Mountain Running Championship. Former dual Australian orienterring champion Andy Hogg was third.
Elizabeth Humphries continued her improvement and was just 2 minutes outside Angela Bateup’s course record. Heather Sinclair from Wollongong was second and Kathy Southgate won the veterans title in finishing third. Unfortunately Bogong to Hotham runner up Bryony McConnell ran an extra 1.6 km after going off course nearing the end.
