Strzelecki Heritage Kosciuszko 11 km Run

Canberra runners dominated today’s 11 km Strezelecki Heritage Kosciuszko Run which was taken out by former Australian orienteering champions Rob Walter and Shannon Jones. In near perfect mild weather fluctuating between sunny and overcast, Walter led all the way from Charlotte Pass Village to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko and finished in 50.17, his second mountain running victory in only a week after winning the Mt Tennent 25 kms on the previous weekend.
Former Australian mountain running champion David Osmond was second in 52.50 and Jindabyne’s David Deany was third male in 57.06.
Shannon Jones, who has represented Australia for the last two years at the World Orienteering Championships, finished 3rd outright in 54.57 with last year’s winner Hannah Flannery second in 56.56 and Australian mountain running champion Vanessa Haverd returning from injury to be third in 57.22.
The run was primarily sponsored by Strzelecki Heritage Inc. which provided medallions for all finishers and prizemoney of $400, $200 and $100 and other awards to the first three males and females. The run was part of the Kossie Festival at Charlotte Pass Village. The run was also sponsored and assisted by the Snowy Mountains National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NPWS Visitors Centre at Jindabyne.
