Amazingly John Mergler from Sydney (pictured) warmed up for the Bush Capital Bush Marathon Festival 60 km run by cycling 280 kms from Sydney the day before. Nineteen year old Nicholas Zawadski from Sydney, who led the field for much of the previous year’s 60 kms before crashing to 7th, returned fitter and more savvy about pacing this year, again leading the field, only to be run down by a resurgent Mergler in the last few kilometres. Mergler clocked 5.10.43 and Zawadski 5.11.56. Todd Hayward of Canberra was third in 5.27.00.

Multi world rogaining champion Julie Quinn of Canberra (pictured), also the North Face 100km champion, chalked up another 60 km win, finishing 4th outright in 5.28.36, with Sally Lynch of Sydney runner up in 6.55.05.

John Mergler was planning to cycle the 280 kms back to Sydney as his warm down.

There were almost 600 entrants in the Festival. An overnight minus 7 degrees and heavy frost gave way to a beautiful sunny day with maximum of 15 degrees.

Placings for all events are as follows. Full results and photo gallery will be available in a couple of days.
