Saturday 7 January 2012
Organiser: YMCA of Canberra Runners Club.
Course: 1.85 kms up the mountain under and near the main chairlift; 600 metres of climb. Most of the course is on grass which was quite long this year compared with previous years. The course was about 20 metres longer than in the past due to erosion re-routing near the chairlift terminal
Weather: Cloudy with a light wind, 23 degrees.
Picture: Vanessa Haverd and Anthony Evans (Photographer: John Harding)
Two time Winter Olympian Anthony Evans made a comeback to mountain running after a 3 year absence with calf problems and had a good duel with former Australian mountain running representative Stuart Doyle before pulling away over the last steep section. Evans of Jindabyne ran 21.16, with Doyle of Canberra second in 23.00 and Sydney’s Chad Armstrong third in 23.37.
The first 5 female finishers were all from Canberra. Course record holder and former Australian mountain running champion Vanessa Haverd ran 27.23, with the highly talented Melissa Clarke runner up in 28.47 and long distance star Louise Sharp third in 29.24.
