Sprint finish in the 16 kms the highlight of Day 1 of the Bush Capital Bush Marathon Festival

Weather: Early fog by a fine sunny 14 degrees with a slight breeze.

The closest finish in the 8-year history of the Bush Capital Bush Marathon Festival was seen in the 16 km run as Matthew Fenech won a sprint by just one second, with James Minto only another 4 seconds further back. Fenech clocked 59 mins 54 secs  for the course around Mt Ainslie from Campbell High School. The women’s race went to Jane Gordon in 1.12.24 from Louise Gates in 1.14.36 and Narelle Patrick from Yass in 1.16.30.

In the 10 km run Elizabeth Humphries showed her training was on track for the World Mountain Running Championship in Italy in September with a strongly run 42.05 to defeat Jodie Barker in 43.54 and Julia Ison in 45.21. Jim Godfrey had a dominating run in the men’s 10 kms in an impressive 37.46 from Peter Zygadlo in 39.44 and Matthew Kuntsi in 41.36.
