Getting there and Parking

The start-finish is on the summit of Mt Stromlo (NOT at Stromlo Forest Park). Take the Cotter Road from South Canberra and turn off onto Mt Stromlo Road. See http://goo.gl/maps/4rFBT Nearing the summit of the mountain, do not turn left to the Observatories and Scope Cafe but follow the sign straight ahead and park on the large grassed area on the left after 300m. See the location map for the nearby Scope Cafe at http://scopemountstromlo.com.au/location.php

Pre-race check in

All competitors must check in and receive their race numbers at least 30 minutes before the start time of their races. All competitors must report to the official at their start line at least 5 minutes before the start of their races for a compulsory pre-start briefing.

Race refreshment station

Water and sports drink will be available at the end of each 4 km lap for 8km and 12 km competitors.

Pre-race course viewing

The course has been marked with pink tapes for several weeks to assist runners doing familiarisation runs. It is planned to fully sign post the course (apart from the start finish) on either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning (depending on the weather).

Course hazards and recommended footwear

The course is on 4WD fire trails and includes some sections of quite steep downhill and uphill, some of which have surfaces that may be loose or slippery under foot. Recommended shoes are lightweight trail running shoes with very good grip such as Inov8’s. The course is criss-crossed in some places with mountain bike trails. Take care on these sections in case a mountain bike unexpectedly crosses the fire trail. There will be marshals on the course at the main mountain bike crossing points.
