W.R.A.T.S. Heartbreak Half-marathon,
Ed Brazier and Rodney Koopmans joined a select group of runners who have finished the WRATS Heartbreak Hal-marathon under 1 hour 40 minutes on Sunday. The course, west of Woolgoolga, takes runners from Apex Park up past the ‘widow-maker’ and back. Thus, it is substantially uphill for the first 10.5 kms followed by mostly downhill to the finish. Brazier looked in command as he completed his run in 97.58 followed by Koopmans in 99.29 with Craig Wirth filling third in 1.40.49
Peter Mitchell, in fourth, made his Heartbreak debut count by posting a faster time than he recorded on the mostly flat Coffs Harbour “Half” course.
Tina Thompson led in the ladies in 2.07.13 with Judy Chesney showing the benefit of consistent training to finish second in 2.36.33. Tina Benoit rounded out the podium for the females, cruising down the mountain to finish in 3.27.11.
The next WRATS event will be the Pub to Pub from the Golden Dog at Glenreagh to the Amble Inn at Corindi on Sunday 11th January, 2015 starting at 6.00am.
