Mountain running update, May 2015
1. Australian Mountain Running Championships, Brisbane, Sunday 31 May
Have a winter escape and go to sunny Queensland on the weekend after this for the Australian Junior, Open and Masters Mountain Running Championships. Entries close on Thursday week, 28 May. However, please assist by entering NOW if you intend participating. Late entries will be accepted on the day at the event but will attract a significant late entry fee.
Eligibility: Entry is open to all runners aged 16 to 79 years, including members of athletics club, Masters runners, fun runners, orienteers, triathletes, adventure racers and others who have good running fitness. There is no requirement for athletics club membership unless representing your State or Australia.

Note: Anyone can enter and last year Sue Archer from Canberra won W65 by over a minute, Catherine Hanley (Canberra) was 10th in W55, Elizabeth Short (Sydney) 10th in W60, Kate Seibold (Melbourne) 12th in W35, Max Bogenhuber 13th in M70, and Paul Archer (Canberra) 39th in M65.

5. State mountain running championships
Martin Dent won both the NSW and ACT mountain running championships with Audrey Amiya-Hall and Vanessa Haverd the women’s champions.

The Victorian Mountain Running Championships at Mt Buller on 28 March were on a tough uphill course that will be used for the Australian Championships in 2016. The 12 km course had 1228m of ascent and 260m of descent and the race was won by Ben Lucas in 1.15.13, with Anthony Lynch 2nd in 1.18.25 and Daniel Trevena 3rd in 1.25.23. The 8km course was also world class, with 1019m of ascent and 74m of descent. Nadine Barnes won in 1.04.28, with former Australian junior champion Bronwyn Humphrys 2nd in 1.05.02, Natasha Fraser 3rd in 1.12.39 and Claire Hodgart the top junior in 1.15.04.
