Humphries, Vincent and Saw have top 30 runs in World Mountain Running Championships

World Mountain Running Championships, Premana, Italy, 30 July 2017

The Ugandans have been nick-named the extraterrestials by some of the European mountain runners after Ugandan runners took a clean sweep of the first 3 placings in the Senior Men’s World Championship and also took out the Junior Men’s and Women’s titles.

The course had the same distance and elevation gain as the Australian Championship course in Adelaide but was more technical in nature and slippery in places after overnight thunderstorms. The temperature was a very warm 29 degrees, adding to the challenge. The highest placed Australians were Elizabeth Humphries, 29th in the Senior Women, her best ever result, Tim Vincent, 20th in the Junior Men, and Chelsea Saw, 28th in the Junior Women. The Australian Senior Women’s team of Humphries 29th, Audrey Amiya-Hall 40th, Jasmine Sargeant 47th and Emma Kraft 48th, finished 9th in the teams competition.
In the Senior Men, Michael Chapman finished 61st, David Osmond 81st, Robin Whiteley 86th and Etienne Blumstein-Jones 89th. The team finished 20th. In the Junior Men, in addition to Tim Vincent 20th, Eligh Morris was 36th.
