Mt Majura Vineyard One Peak and Two Peaks, Sunday 14 October 2018
1. How to get to Mt Majura Vineyard at Lime Kiln Road, Majura
Please download the event information at http://www.coolrunning.com.au/calendar/public_html/2018/2018e004.pdf
Coming down the Majura Parkway from the north, turn left on to Majura Road then right on to Lime Kiln Road.
Coming up the Parkway from the airport end, turn off at Tambrett St, go under the Parkway then turn left on to Majura Road, then left again at Lime Kiln Road.
Once you arrive at the vineyard, you will park in a grassy paddock north of the vineyard building. There will be 2 portaloos at the parking area.
2. Start times
7am 20 km run and bush walk, 12 km bush walk
7.45am 12 km run
There is a compulsory briefing 10 minutes before each start. Please arrive 40 minutes before your start to allow enough time to park, collect your race bib, warm up and visit the portaloo, and be at the start line 10 minutes pre-start.
3. Course markings
Mostly yellow plastic signs with black arrows, plus white signs with black crosses for side tracks not to go down. Also larger fluoro painted wooden signs. Each junction is signposted. There are many junctions so please concentrate and check for signs at each junction. Do NOT just follow the runner in front as he or she may lead you off course.
4. Bib numbers
You need to arrive early and collect these on Sunday morning.
Please pin your bib number on the front of your T shirt or top so that it is clearly visible as you approach the finish line. Make sure you do not have hydration vest strapping over the bib. This applies to walkers as well as runners.
See the entry list with numbers at the end of this bulletin.
5. Compulsory gear!!
- Drink stations: Be environmentally friendly
The War On Waste TV series on the ABC revealed that plastic cups take 50 years to fully disintegrate in landfill. So we want to be environmentally responsible by cutting out use of plastic cups for drink stations and instead event participants must carry 0.5 litre to 1 litre water bottles/cups/mugs, or water bladders in race vests, and refill these at drink stations from water and sports drink 20 litre containers with taps.
At the drink stations: Water, sports drink, various lollies at each.
See the drink station locations on the course maps.
- Shoes
Please wear trail running or other shoes with good grip as the course includes some steep uphil and downhill sections, and some sections with rough ground.
6. Off track danger
We are required to advise you that Mt Ainslie many years ago was an army firing range and a few unexploded ordinances have been found in recent years. You will not encounter any such things on the Two Peaks and One Peak trails. However, if you venture off the trail for any reason and encounter any metal objects on the ground, stay right away from them and do not pick them up. If they look at all like an unexploded military device, please report the location to race organisers and to police.
7. Walkers
In these events some walkers are actually injured runners who then jog part of the course. If this occurs, it is fine but please advise the finish line recorder so that you are changed to the run for the official results. It is not fair on those who have walked all the way to have runners included in the walk results!
8. Toilets
There will be 2 portaloos. There are also male and female toilets adjacent to the vineyard cafe. Each year there tends to be a large queue at the loos shortly before start time. Please aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before race start so that you have plenty of time to visit the loo if needed.
9. Awards
For all finishers the vineyard manager will have bottles of wine and will hand a bottle to you as you finish unless you are a non-wine drinker. There will be a Toblerone chocolate option for non-wine drinkers. When you finish the Vineyard Cellar Door will be open if you would like to stock up on some quality wine.
10. Weather
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/act/act/canberra The forecast for Sunday morning is for80% chance of 1mm to 5mm of showers, with a temperature range from 7 degrees to 19 degrees. So be prepared for wet weather.
11. Refreshments
4 drink stations on the 20k course and 2 on the 12k course, with water, sports drink and lollies. Soft drink, breakfast bars and water at the finish. .
12. No dogs
Mt Majura Vineyard has very strict biosecurity. So no dogs are allowed either with spectators at the Vineyard or runners or walkers on the course.
